HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER POSITIONS

Position Descriptions

Science Programs:                               
High School Transition (Open to Madison Instructors Only):  Prepare incoming ninth graders to Madison Metropolitan School District High School for the freshman level science curriculum (biology and integrated science program). Contact: Chris Hager at (608) 347-0484 or ckamke@madison.k12.wi.us    

High School Statewide (Open to all Instructors): Working with a team of 2 UW-Madison students to collaboratively develop and teach a two-hour class to approximately 12—25 10th or 11th grade PEOPLE students.  Topic areas that are typically taught in sciences include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Forensics, Technology Education, and Earth Science.  More info contact: Robert Bohannan at (608) 265-2125 or rbohanan@wisc.edu

Math Summer Programs:                                 
High School Transition (Open to Madison Instructors Only): Prepare  incoming ninth graders to Madison Metropolitan School District High Schools for the freshman level mathematics curriculum. Contact: Lee Ann Johnson at (608) 204-3350 or  johnson@madison.k12.wi.us 

High School Statewide (Open to all Instructors): During the three week program, instructors provide opportunities for students to develop and refine approaches to mathematics. Writing Summer Programs:                    
High School Statewide (Open to all Instructors): During the three week program, instructors provide opportunities for students to develop and refine approaches to college academic writing. By the end of the three week session, students produce texts that demonstrate their understandings of college writing.  First-year: introduce new ways to view, approach, and cultivate the writing process. Second-year: focus on critical thinking and literary analysis for college-level writing. Contact Ross Collins at (608) 287-1079 or recollin@wisc.edu  

Study Skills Summer Programs:
High School Transition (Open to Madison Instructors Only): Work collaboratively with the Study Skills Coordinator to develop curriculum that explores learning styles, note taking, time management and organizational skills, amongst many more. High School Statewide (Open to all instructors):During the three week program, instructors provide opportunities for 10th grade students to develop and refine approaches to time management, note-taking, reading comprehension, speed-reading, and test-taking. ACT Prep Summer Programs:
High School Statewide (Open to all Instructors):  11th and 12th year students get a jump-start on the ACT by following a 3-week course delving into the content and structure of the exam. Strategies for preparing and taking the test improve self-confidence and understanding of English, math, reading, science, and writing portions of the exam. **Math, Science and Writing Teachers will take a 3-credit professional development seminar during the summer in their specific subject area.
